Jack Cartwright | Crime Author Update
Okay, so I usually record behind the scenes videos which you'll find on my social media platforms, but this one is typed...and before I'm tarred and feathered for laziness, I have a good reason. My studio, which is a brick built outbuilding at the bottom of the garden, is currently empty. A couple of months ago, I had a mahogany floor, oak shelves, and a stunning antique partners desk.
That's now all gone.
The thing with bookshelves is that everything is always on show. So, I finally bit the bullet and tore it all out. I now have a new floor, courtesy of Croft Carpets, and tomorrow, (Aug 13) Robes and Rails will be coming in to install my new furniture. Even my wife is excited. I'll be doing a big reveal video when it's finished...hopefully on Friday. Pics to follow.

The Next Deadly Wolds Mystery

This month, DI George Larson returns with a chilling new mystery, Secrets from the Grave set in Lincolnshire’s remote Snipe Dales.
When three teenage boys stumble upon a gruesome discovery during a carefree summer, DI George Larson and DS Ivy Hart are thrust into one of their most complex investigations yet.
With betrayal, deceit, and rising stakes, The Snipe Dales case may be the team’s biggest challenge—and George’s last—before retirement looms.
What else?
In other news, we just celebrated our youngest daughter's first birthday, She'll never remember it, but we will. She's days away from walking, and maybe a week or two from speaking. At the minute she bumbles around the house with a walker, yelling "car," at everything, and pointing. I don't have the heart to correct her. Oddly enough, she doesn't point at cars and yell "car."
Our eldest will be starting school in September, too. We had her uniforms on the washing line and it was a real moment for my wife and I. That's what our garden will look like for the next eighteen years or so.
I suppose you want to know about Bruno, don't you? Well, he's nine months old, much less of pain now, and has even stopped using our rug as a lavatory....for the most part. He is due a bit of a set back, though, as I caught him...erm...investigating my mother in law's female dog. I don't know what he's been watching on the TV while I'm working, but I never taught him that! He'll be in the vets soon enough with a lamp shade on his head as a prize. Bless him.

Downton Abbey

For 364 days of the year, whenever I speak to a member of my team (which is nearly every day), I'm very aware that the conversation sounds very much like, "I need..." or "I want..." and then I leave them to apply their individual skills to produce results...and they are very good at what they do. My wife and I wanted to say thanks. We wanted a day when I didn't say the words, "I need," or "I want." We just wanted them to have a nice time.
So we hired a dining room at Downton Abbey, which, if you've followed me for some time, you will know is usually on while I write Freya Bloom.
If you haven't been, the team at Highclere Castle are incredible. We had a great tour, high tea, champagne, and were treated so well, I could have stayed for longer. We even met the real butler, who isn't Carson, but made a decent substitute. All in all, it was a fabulous day and well worth a visit.
My wife is already planning next year's company event...watch this space for my next crime author update!

What a lovely read. I haven't seen any of your videos, but will certainly be doing so in the future, as I'm sure there is a lot I can learn from them.
